Reflections

The audience I choose for this assignment was a very broad one because of the wide age range of people with this problem. I wanted to be able to address everyone who had question and concerns whether they were young or old. The reason I wrote this was just so people were aware the harmful side affects that could result form these procedures. Also I know many young people, including me, do not always follow the instructions given from our health care providers and that can and will cause problems. In this argument I was trying to prove that with the new technologies also come more intense and serious consequences. I am not trying to convince anyone not to get help with their vision problems, but to be aware of the possible damages or consequences that may come with them BEFORE they make a decision.

I am proud of the fact that I am helping other people by using my own experience. I know now the dangers and want to warn others about them. I have a great, not so great for me, personal experience that hopefully will help people realize this is serious stuff. I know already people have told me every time they fall asleep with their contacts in they think of me. Or that they are going to start taking their contacts out more often. I wish I had more time to work on this paper because of all the other assignments I have at the end of the year I have been very stretched for time. I also wish it did not have to be a hypertext essay. I still vary much so do not like those and would rather just turn in a paper. With it being hypertext not only do you have to write the paper but you have to design the pages, make sure all your links work and all that jazz. Because we are only able to access Dream weaver at school that is the only opportunity you have to work on it. I know for me personally that if I do not get it done in class it is very hard for me to find extra time because while I am at school I have classes back to back till 10 at night and the days I am not at school I am at work from 6am till 8pm. This does not give me personally a lot of time to come back to school and work with dream weaver.

I think the peer reviews are very helpful and enjoy doing them.

Argument Paper: Week 12. Day 1

My Topic is about how the new technology has better results for eye procedures but the side effects and "gone wrong Stories" are now more severe.

1. How does with the invention of new technology do the side-effects/ dangers of the new technology get worse?

~Is the risk worth the end product?

2. With the invention of new technology the risks you take of permanent damage is also increased in regards to eye care.

3. Evidence:

a. Dangers that come with these new technologies.

b. Examples: Articles already collected

c. Facts: Problems that have already arose.

4. I will find this evidence in the data base here at school.

a. Inspire

b. Google Scholar

Recent Argument

The last time I got in an argument it was over my puppy. I believe that she can be left out for short periods of time while we are out of the house. This is the only way she will learn how to be out of her cage while we are gone. Starting a little at a time and building up the time we leave her out I believe would be the best way. Plus I hate having to lock her up in her cage every time we leave, she looks so sad. :(

Some Dangers of Corrective Eyewear

I choose to do the essay I did because I recently had a problem of my own in regards to my subject. I wrote this with the audience of a regular person reading this essay. The issue I am talking about is a common issue and affects many different people all over the world and I believe this essay can relate to every one of them.

The layout of my project I tried to keep simple and easy to follow. I had three very clear topics and I believe they were easy to follow. If someone only wanted to read about the contacts it was very easy for them to simply click on that link and find all the information they needed.

My podcast was personal story and why I decided to do this topic. I did not want to dwell on and on in the podcast about me but the fact that we need to listen to the instructions that are given to us because they are there for a reason.

My power point was mostly helpful tips on how to protect your eyes. I also added some visual aspects to it just to reiterate my point of why we need to follow these instructions given to us. I hope nobodies eyes ever look like the ones in my Pictures.

I enjoyed doing this project because I got to see the many different ways you can injure your eyes and I also learned more about what I did to my own eye and I know I will never do that again!

If I had more time I would develop my sections deeper. I have more information that I could have added into my essay I just did not have the time to do it. I would also organize it so it was in a clearer format.

My sources were all scholarly and taken from credible magazines or journals. I would use a larger variety of sources if I could have found them.

Technology ideas

I am doing my essay on how the missuse of technology can bring harm to you. I want to explore ways that technolgy not only helps us in our lives but also how if we missuse it and do not follow it as directed it can be harmful to you. Technology is advancing in hopes to help and enhance people's lives. When people do not listen or follow the directions how harmful can technology really be?

Hypertext esssay

What did I think about the hypertext essay? I did not like it at all! I got the point of it but that is not how I think to write an essay. To have to have different pages for my responses did not seem logical. Since I had had to have different pages for certain things I seemed to get stuck with what to transition from topic to topic with on my summary page. I never did get into a flowing, writing mode. I feel as if everything is very choppy and all over the place.

When I read an essay I also do not like it to by hyper links. I rarely every click on the links and they are basically worthless to me. I figure if its not worth putting on the main page I am not going to bother reading it at all.

I understand putting links to sources in an essay. This is a good idea I believe so if you do want to see what they are talking about or where they are getting their information you can just lick and see. This is the only links that should be in a paper. If you are writing you just write everything on one page.

Technology

Hello again!

I am writing you from my bed while using my computer, watching a DVD and charging my phone and Ipod. Technology has so many impacts on all of our lives! I know for me myself I would be lost without all these modern convinces. As I look up I see my space heater and printer sitting across the room and wonder what I would do without these.

My IPOD is basically my lifeline, I drive an average of three hours a day and my IPOD is constantly going. I also have a CD player in my car in case my IPOD runs out of battery but it still drives my crazy, I guess I need that instant access to 10,000 songs.

Since I am always on the road and going here and there my cell phone is also a necessity. You will never find me without and it is has had a major change in how I communicate with people. I no longer even have to call them, just text them, and I will have an answer without having all the extra courtesy talk.

There are so many technological things I use every day without even thinking about them, a shower, my contacts, and my fridge that beeps at you if you keep it open too long, the car, my flash drive, and so many others. Like I said before I would not be able to function without all these things. So I am going to go and watch my movie and chat with people on AIM and probably update my facebook!

Popular Culture

Pop culture is all around us. It influences the things we do, buy, and the way we act. Popular culture changes as the world changes but it is always there. How many times have you heard someone use the phrase “cool” or, “wanna hang out?” These phrases I am sure everyone has used and they are part of our pop culture.

Pop culture has influenced my circle of friends somewhat. I would like to believe that we still have our own ideas and thoughts but I know that the way we dress and the music we listen to is influenced by popular culture.

The way pop culture has influenced our generation is huge I think. You see all the problems celebrities have and we now think of that as the norm for our society. I know there has been times I have read something and thought, “I should be more surprised then I am right now.” Chaos and disorder has become the norm in our society. It is sad that on the news there is more coverage on our celebrities then on the presidential candidates, but that is not what the majority of the people what to hear about.

Even the people who try not to do what the popular thing they always seem to group together and form a sub culture, that once again draws people in and influences how you act.

Group Work

Popular Culture is: The Fashionable thing to have or do in today's society. It is influenced by the things we see and the things people have around us. Everyone is influenced by pop culture in one way or another; Music, religion, the clothes we wear, and transportation.
